Vincent Delbrouck, As dust Alights

La Biennale de la photographie de Mulhouse (BPM) c’est un festival transfrontalier (entre France, Allemagne et Suisse) qui défend la photographie contemporaine, lors d’un temps fort et fédérateur. BPM présente des artistes internationaux, des nouveaux talents autour d’un thème différent à chaque fois. La deuxième édition aura lieu du 4 juin au 4 septembre 2016. Durant le week-end d’ouverture, le public pourra découvrir des expositions mais aussi des installations in situ, des projections et rencontrer les photographes invités. Le thème est  L’autre et le même. Cette édition est une invitation à découvrir l’Autre à travers les expositions et installations d’une quinzaine de photographes dont Vincent Delbrouck, Yaakov Israel, Pascal Amoyel, Alicja Dobrucka, Anna Meschiari, Rebecca Topakian...Une programmation d'Anne Immelé/  BPM (Mulhouse Biennial of Photography) is a cross-border festival (between France, Germany and Switzerland) that advocates contemporary photography, at a great and unifying event. BPM presents international artists and new talent with a different theme for each edition. The theme of this edition is The Other and the Same. This is an opportunity to discover the ‘other’ through the exhibitions and installations of fifteen or so photographers.The association L’Agrandisseur supports BPM. The second edition will take place from 4th June to 4th September 2016.  During the opening weekend, the public can discover installations in situ, screenings and meet the invited photographers. From autumn 2015 two creative residency programs will enable photographers Pascal Amoyel(FR) and Vincent Delbrouck (BE) to produce personal work in advance. The BPM allows young photographers to present their first solo exhibition. This is the case for Anna Meschiari (CH) focusing on the representation of UFOs in an exhibition at the Galerie de la Bibliothèque; and for Rebecca Toppakian with her exhibition at the CCFF.

Constellations of stars rely on the eyes of whoever has chosen and then connected the stars together, in order to create a configuration. The same applies to the photographer who constellates, orientates, then assembles and configures visible fragments. A constellation is a metaphor for photography, consistent with plurality and merging the heterogeneous.

This essay (in french) analyses photography layout practices in the shape of constellations, from a body of works by Wolfgang Tillmans, Raymonde April, Peter Puklus, Antoine d’Agata, Adam Broomberg & Olivier Chanarin, David Favrod, Marine Lanier, Vincent Delbrouck, Sylvain Couzinet-Jacques, Aleix Plademunt, Anouk Kruithof, Archive of Modern Conflict, Vera Schöpe, Mikhael Subotzky and Patrick Waterhouse, Ed Templeton, Anna Meschiari, Tacita Dean, Isabelle Le Minh, Carly Steinbrunn, Christophe Bourguedieu, Sophie Ristelhueber, Michael Schmidt and Christian Milovanoff./

Les constellations d’étoiles n’existent que par le regard de celui qui a choisi puis connecté des étoiles entre elles afin de créer une configuration. De même, le photographe qui constelle va pointer des fragments de visible qu’il va agencer et configurer. La constellation, c’est une métaphore de la photographie, dans une pensée de la multiplicité et du rapprochement des hétérogènes.

Cet essai analyse les pratiques de mises en espace photographiques sous forme de constellations, à partir d’un corpus d’œuvres de Wolfgang Tillmans, Raymonde April, Peter Puklus, Antoine d’Agata, Adam Broomberg & Olivier Chanarin, David Favrod, Marine Lanier, Vincent Delbrouck, Sylvain Couzinet-Jacques, Aleix Plademunt, Anouk Kruithof, Archive of Modern Conflict, Vera Schöpe, Mikhael Subotzky et Patrick Waterhouse, Ed Templeton, Anna Meschiari, Tacita Dean, Isabelle Le Minh, Carly Steinbrunn, Christophe Bourguedieu, Sophie Ristelhueber, Michael Schmidt et Christian Milovanoff.
